Construction Contract Auditor​

​

Overview: Construction Contract Auditor position available with a commercial real estate consulting firm in Overland Park, KS. Position involves conducting start-to-finish analysis and auditing of construction projects on behalf of Fortune 100 corporate clients. Ideal candidates include licensed engineers, attorneys, CPA, CCA, CCP, PMP designations and other individuals with construction accounting and project management experience.

Responsibilities/Objectives:

​

​The Construction Auditor will be responsible for ensuring that our clients are being charged by vendors in compliance with their general contracting services agreement. This responsibility includes performing complete reviews and analysis of vendor contract agreements, bid packages, proposals, accounting ledgers, time and material invoices, bidding information, payroll records, Schedule of Value (SOV) and Scope of Work (SOW) documents, reconciliation worksheets, insurance documentation, allowance worksheets, change orders, self-perform worksheets, purchase orders, job cost reports and closeout billings. You will then prepare detailed spreadsheets with a comprehensive findings report documenting your research, analysis and conclusions.   

 

Requirements:

 

As a Construction Auditor, you should enjoy working in Excel and be comfortable reviewing extensive contract documents, accounting ledgers and construction billing documentation. As auditors, our job is to validate compliance and accuracy on behalf of our clients. We must always be precise in our work product and pay close attention to detail so that it is 100% correct. You should be motivated and competent in working independently and managing multiple projects with numerous steps and details.

You must be able to start, execute, and complete audits including preparation of a comprehensive written audit report with supporting spreadsheets and exhibits. You’ll need polished writing skills to draft audit reports concisely explaining complex issues. It also requires advanced spreadsheet and presentation skills to prepare all required supporting documentation. Professional written and verbal communication with strong negotiation skills are a must for the ongoing follow-ups necessary with contractor staff and counsel to mutually resolve audit claims.

We are looking for a true professional and self-starter who can independently perform in a consulting firm environment. Most of our audit projects can be completed here in our local office. You’ll also need to be available to travel independently to complete audit projects. Some projects may require an audit to be performed onsite with an approximate duration of 3 – 5 days. Total travel during the year is estimated to range from 10% to 20%.

You’ll work directly with our Account Managers and Directors who will be giving you audit assignments and collectively managing your workflow. You’ll also interact daily with the Audit Program Manager and Audit Coordinators who obtain necessary documentation from client portals and report audit status to clients on a regular ongoing basis. Additionally, you will collaborate or travel on assigned projects with other auditors and staff.

Salary is commensurate with experience.  Benefits include ten days off per year, and you can purchase health, vision and dental insurance in the group plan as a pre-tax payroll deduction.  There is a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) also available as a pre-tax payroll deduction for qualified out of pocket health and childcare expenses.

Summary of Job Requirements

 

  • BA/BS/MA/MS/MBA degree or equivalent applicable experience.

  • Well-developed technical knowledge of General Construction process and methodology

  • Strong working knowledge of complex construction projects

  • Experience in auditing mid to large scale construction projects

  • Demonstrated analytical, organizational, project management and communication skills

  • Advanced proficiency in Excel required.

  • Negotiation skills required to independently settle audit claims on behalf of clients.

  • Expertise in creating detailed written reports and supporting exhibits.

  • Must be able to start, execute, and complete detailed projects.

  • Non-stop attention to detail for 100% accuracy in your work product.

  • Organization and follow through skills required for all open tasks through completion.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.

  • Motivated to do research and analysis of complex construction and financial documentation.

  • Should be self-starter with ability to work and follow through independently.

  • Must be able to organize and manage multiple open projects, communicating effectively with team members, clients and vendor contacts.

  • Approximately 10 – 20% travel required with an average duration per trip of 3 days.

  • Licensed Engineer, CPA, CCA, CCP, PMP or Attorney is preferred.
