A financial institution leased retail space in a commercial office building. As part of the lease audit, Chelepis visited the property and inspected the electric submeters for the client’s leased space. The inspection led to a discovery that the submeters were improperly capturing data for a previously occupied, but then-vacant space. The audit report led to a settlement with the landlord for a total savings of $420,000, of which, $80,000 could be attributed to the improper sub-metering.
